Ho Central NDC office torched

A group of unidentified individuals set fire to the Ho Central Constituency office of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Tuesday evening.

The perpetrators reportedly broke into the office, threw out furniture, office equipment, documents, and other items, and set them ablaze using lorry tyres in the forecourt of the office.

The incident, which occurred at around 7:00 p.m., caused fear and alarm among motorists and residents along the road between the Ho Central Market and Ho-Dome.

Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service arrived promptly at the scene and managed to extinguish the fire.

Eyewitnesses told reporters that the gang responsible for the arson was masked.

Some members of the NDC, who rushed to the scene, attributed the attack to disgruntled party members allegedly upset that President John Dramani Mahama had not appointed anyone from the constituency to a ministerial position.

Police investigations into the incident are currently underway.

Meanwhile, the Regional Youth Wing of the NDC has condemned the act of arson and urged party supporters to remain calm and allow the appointment process to proceed without interference.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, January 22, and signed by the Regional Youth Organiser, Mathias Alagbo Kabila, the group emphasised that appointments are an ongoing process.

“We are confident President Mahama acknowledges the Volta Region’s significance to the NDC’s electoral success and will reward local Voltaians accordingly,” the statement read.

It further stressed that such irresponsible actions are inconsistent with the values of the NDC and would not be tolerated.
