President John Dramani Mahama has expressed deep concern over the escalating threat of terrorism in neighbouring countries, calling for stronger regional collaboration to combat the growing menace.

In a meeting with Mali’s Prime Minister, General Abdoulaye Maiga, President Mahama highlighted the increasing danger posed by extremist groups in the region and emphasised the urgent need for collective action to ensure regional stability.

President Mahama assured Prime Minister Maiga of Ghana’s full support in the fight against terrorism and in efforts to restore peace.

He stressed that security must remain a top priority for the region, noting, “Our security is a shared goal, and we must work together to ensure our sub-region is safe. Ghana stands firm in solidarity with Mali.”

Reflecting on the worsening security situation in the Sahel, President Mahama acknowledged that while terrorism was not a new threat, it had become more severe over time.

He called for joint efforts to address these challenges and strengthen regional stability.

To further enhance bilateral relations, President Mahama announced the creation of joint technical teams between Ghana and Mali.

These teams will work to identify and resolve challenges in their cooperation, aiming to build stronger economic and security ties.

Prime Minister Maiga expressed optimism about the collaboration, emphasising its potential to improve economic and security cooperation between the two nations.

“We are confident that our leaders will guide us in ensuring lasting cooperation,” he said, reaffirming Mali’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with Ghana.
