Walewale: Unknown gunmen attack and set truck ablaze (video)
A worrying incident unfolded in Walewale in the North East Region on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, as unknown armed men attacked and set ablaze a Kia Rhino truck.
The truck, loaded with bags of vegetables, was en route from Mognori in the Bawku Municipality to Kumasi.
The situation has increased security concerns in the area, with military personnel patrolling Walewale township in response to the attack.
The incident occurred during President John Dramani Mahama’s visit to Bawku and Nalerigu, where he was addressing the ongoing chieftaincy conflicts in the region.
Such unlawful incidents have become rampant along the Bolgatanga-Tamale highway, fuelled by prolonged ethnic and chieftaincy disputes in the North East Region.
Meanwhile, the President has reaffirmed his commitment to restoring peace in Bawku, describing it as one of his administration’s top priorities.
