Eric Boampong, a 25-year-old mason, has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment by the Akropong Circuit Court for stealing an iPhone 7 worth GH₵ 1,200.
The incident occurred on January 9, 2025, at Abrafo Kokoben in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
Boampong threatened his victim, a student, with scissors before fleeing with the phone.
According to Prosecutor Detective Inspector Alexander Agbekpornu, the victim had forgotten to lock her room, providing Boampong an opportunity to unlawfully enter.
Armed with scissors, screwdrivers, and spanners, Boampong intimidated the victim and made off with the device.
The victim’s cries for help drew the attention of residents, who apprehended Boampong and handed him over to the police.
He was subsequently charged with robbery under Section 149 of the Criminal Offence Act 1960 (Act 29).
During court proceedings on January 14, 2025, presided over by Her Ladyship Gloria Mensah Bonsu, Boampong pleaded guilty to the offense.
The court sentenced Eric Boampong a 10-year sentence.
