Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer for the 2024 general election, has embarked on a pilgrimage to Mecca, Islam’s holiest city.

According to Dr. Bawumia, the visit is a gesture of gratitude to Allah and an opportunity to pray for Ghana’s protection and guidance.

The pilgrimage, known as Hajj, is one of the Five Pillars of Islam, and it is a religious obligation for Muslims who are physically and financially capable of undertaking the journey at least once in their lifetime.

Accompanying Dr. Bawumia on the pilgrimage are his wife, Samira Bawumia; former Minister of Finance Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam; former Minister for Youth and Sports Mustapha Ussif; and Member of Parliament for Tolon, Habib Iddrisu.

Hajj is a significant religious event for Muslims worldwide, symbolising faith and obedience to Allah.
