A Toyota Land Cruiser vehicle burst into flames near the Community 18 Junction at Tema, causing gridlock for several hours on Monday morning.
Eyewitnesses reported that the incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. when the driver noticed smoke from the engine compartment.
Despite efforts to investigate, the vehicle was quickly engulfed in flames, forcing the occupants to flee for safety.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident.
However, the fire destroyed the vehicle completely, leaving behind a charred shell that has yet to be removed from the highway.
The incident caused significant gridlock on the Tema Motorway, with motorists advised to exercise caution when driving along the stretch.
The Ghana National Fire Service was not called to the scene, as the fire had already consumed the vehicle by the time help could arrive.
Motorists are urged to remain vigilant and patient while driving on the motorway as crews work to remove the remains of the burnt vehicle and restore normal traffic flow.
