Eric Nana Agyemang-Prempeh of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially been declared the winner of the Ahafo Ano North parliamentary seat following today’s re-collation exercise.
The recount conducted by the Electoral Commission (EC), was ordered by the High Court following discrepancies in the earlier results.
During the re-collation, the Member of Parliament-elect for the constituency secured 20,353 votes.
His contender from the National Democratic Congress, Kwasi Adusei, secured 20,232 votes.
It will be recalled that on December 8, ballot papers, pink sheets, and other election materials were reportedly destroyed following a violent protest at the Ahafo Ano North Collation Centre in Tepa.
The incident, which disrupted the vote collation process forced the Electoral Commission (EC) to suspend activities at the centre.
The protest resulted in significant damage to the collation centre, prompting a military intervention to restore order at the venue.
