Ebi Bright defeated in Tema Central After Re-Collation
Charles Forson, the Parliamentary Candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Tema Central Constituency, has been declared the winner of the parliamentary election following a re-collation exercise.
Forson secured 18,870 votes, narrowly defeating the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Ebi Bright, who garnered 18,815 votes.
Independent candidate Fredrick Aniagyei received 229 votes in the tightly contested race.
The re-collation exercise was conducted by the Electoral Commission (EC) at its Greater Accra Regional Office under heavy police and military presence.
This exercise was part of a directive issued by the Accra High Court, which ordered the EC to re-collate and declare results in nine disputed constituencies.
The affected constituencies include Nsawam-Adoagyiri in the Eastern Region; Ahafo Ano South West, Ahafo Ano North, and Obuasi East in the Ashanti Region; Dome-Kwabenya, Okaikwei Central, Ablekuma North, and Tema Central in the Greater Accra Region; and Techiman South in the Bono East Region.
The court’s directive followed disputes raised over inconsistencies in the initial results from these constituencies.
The EC was tasked with ensuring compliance with electoral laws during the collation process, while the Inspector-General of Police was directed to maintain security at all collation centres.
The declaration of Charles Forson as the winner brings clarity to the Tema Central election outcome after weeks of uncertainty.
However, the ongoing re-collation process in other constituencies continues to draw significant public attention, with the results expected to influence the composition of the next Parliament.
