Dangote Refinery supplies aviation fuel to Ghana

International oil trading giant, Vitol, has successfully sold a consignment of aviation fuel from the Dangote Petroleum Refinery to a Bulk Import, Distribution and Export Company (BIDEC) in Ghana.

This transaction underscores the growing influence of the $20 billion Dangote Refinery as a key supplier of refined petroleum products across the West African region.

This development does not only strengthen regional energy trade but also meets the demand for aviation fuel to support Ghana’s growing aviation sector amid rising air travel activity.

It marks a significant step in fostering regional partnerships while positioning Africa’s largest refinery as a transformative player in the continent’s energy supply chain.

Checks show that the consignment was received not long ago. Sources familiar with the matter indicate this could potentially be the first official consignment delivered to a Ghanaian BIDEC.

However, they caution that it is also possible some Dangote products may have entered the Ghanaian market previously, though this cannot be confirmed due to the lack of available data.

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery, with a capacity to process 650,000 barrels of crude oil per day, has been touted as a strategic asset capable of reducing Africa’s reliance on imported petroleum products.
