Two young men have lost their lives in a clash with a group of heavily built men who allegedly stormed Nyinahin-Kasotie in the Ashanti Region to commit a crime.

The deceased persons, along with five other injured victims, were shot during the confrontation.

Eyewitnesses report that the armed men arrived in the Atwima Mponua District on Monday morning and began stealing excavator parts and gold deposits.

However, their activities took a deadly turn when some youth in the town attempted to resist their operations.

The incident sparked widespread tension in the town, with the youth and local authorities taking to the streets to protest.

Assembly Member for Kyekyewere Electoral Area, Samuel Anyine, expressed the community’s fear and outrage, stating, “They are thieves. They came to steal excavators and gold deposits, leaving two community members dead. We are afraid because anything can happen.”

Anyine emphasised the need for government intervention, saying, “Government must deploy the military into the community. This can’t continue. As I speak, others are in critical condition.”

He reiterated the community’s demand for action, stressing that the situation was dire and required immediate attention.

Meanwhile, the police have yet to comment on the incident.
