A devastating incident has occurred in the Bono East region, where a policeman allegedly shot and killed his colleague during a confrontation at Abease along the Prang-Kintampo road.
The disturbing event unfolded on Sunday, December 15, 2024, around 11:30 am.
Information gathered indicates that a funeral procession was underway, with mourners heading to the cemetery; however, the mourners encountered a police barrier, leading to a confrontation.
The situation escalated when one of the mourners allegedly insulted a policewoman, prompting a call for backup.
Upon arrival, the reinforcement team clashed with the mourners, during which a policeman fired warning shots.
In an attempt by the mourners to disarm him, the gun accidentally went off, shooting his colleague in the abdomen.
The officer responsible for the shooting fled the scene after realising the harm caused.
The injured officer was rushed to a nearby clinic and later transferred to Techiman Hospital, where he sadly succumbed to his injuries.
An investigation is expected to be launched to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
