Catholic Diocese of Jasikan demands justice for 3 priests attacked in Nkwanta
The Catholic Diocese of Jasikan is demanding justice for three priests of the Franciscan Capuchin Order in Nkwanta, Oti Region, who were brutally attacked.
In a statement, the Diocese condemned the attack and called for immediate action against the perpetrators.
The diocese also expressed concern that no suspect has since been arrested in connection with the assault.
“The Catholic Church in the Diocese of Jasikan and Ghana, in general, takes a serious view of this unwarranted attack on the three innocent priests.
“We demand that the perpetrators of this heinous attack be arrested with immediate effect so that justice is served and seen manifestly to be served,” the diocese said.
It further appealed for calm among all parties involved, urging them to allow the law to take its course.
The three Indian priests based at Kpassa in the Nkwanta-North District of the Oti Region were brutally beaten by a mob at a fuel station on Wednesday, December 12, 2024.
They are Father Robinson Melkis, Father Frank Henry Jacob, and Father Martin George.
They have been engaged in missionary activities in the country since 2005.
They were beaten to such an extent that Father Frank Henry Jacob lost hearing in one of his ears.
Parts of the attack were captured in a video which has been widely circulated on social media.
Two other officials of the Nkwanta-South Municipal Assembly who were accompanying them were also assaulted by the mob.
