The Minority Chief Whip and Member of Parliament (MP) for Asawase in the Ashanti Region, Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka has appealed to the Christian Council of Ghana to call mission-based schools to order.

Mohammed Muntaka, a devoted Muslim, says authorities of some Christian-based schools are forcing Muslim children to endure church services.

Speaking at the 88th Ahmadiyya Ghana Annual conference, Muntaka said,  “ I have vowed to tell Christian Authorities anywhere I find them that you are hurting our children, I want to beg you, this country is a very peaceful country and we need to continue to work to hold it, you are hurting our children in your schools.

Condemning the act, the Member of Parliament said, some Islamic schools in retaliation have also started forcing Christian children to wear hijab.

“Some Islamic schools are doing same, both of which is wrong and I want that act to seize” he noted

“Let’s work towards creating a more harmonious society that will ensure that we live together just as we have in times past” he urged.

In 2008, a final year student of Adisadel College, Mustapha Abdul jumped from the fourth floor of the school’s new classroom block in attempt to hide from a teacher who was punishing students who had refused to attend morning church service.

Muntaka  is known to have championed for inter-faith dialogue and lobbied for all  parliamentarians to have one religious service in Parliament.

His frustration has been shared in time past by former President John Mahama and other Islamic leaders.
