The Electoral Commission (EC) has declared the parliamentary results for Dome Kwabenya, Okaikwei Central, Ablekuma North, and Tema Central constituencies illegal and invalid due to procedural violations.
Samuel Tettey, Deputy EC Chair for Operations, announced during a press briefing in Accra on Friday, December 13, that the required processes outlined in CI 127 were not followed in these constituencies.
He noted that the results had been re-collated in three constituencies: Suhum, Akwatia, and Fanteakwa North.
However, re-collation is still pending in Ahafo Ano South West, Ahafo Ano North, Obuasi East, and Techiman South.
Mr. Tettey revealed that attempts to re-collate results in Dome Kwabenya, Okaikwei Central, Ablekuma North, and Tema Central were disrupted by party supporters who besieged collation centres, intimidated EC staff, and forced declarations in favour of their preferred candidates.
“It is important to note that the re-collation in these constituencies did not follow the processes enshrined in CI 127, despite police presence at the collation centres,” Tettey stated.
He emphasised that EC officials were threatened and coerced into declaring winners without adhering to the prescribed procedures.
“As a result, the commission has concluded that the collation and declarations made under these circumstances are illegal and cannot be upheld, as they violated the processes outlined in CI 127,” Tettey concluded.
The EC has assured the public of its commitment to upholding electoral integrity and ensuring compliance with established procedures.
