EC requested re-collation at Police Training School – Peace Council
The National Peace Council (NPC) has clarified that the re-collation exercise at the Tesano Police Training School was initiated by the Electoral Commission (EC) and not by any political party or the Ghana Police Service.
This clarification follows the suspension of the re-collation exercise to allow for further engagement with political parties amid growing tensions.
On December 12, the police revealed that the EC had requested the use of the Police Training School as a secure venue for the exercise. However, disagreements over the process led to its suspension.
During a press conference on Friday, December 13, NDC National Chairman Asiedu Nketiah criticized the re-collation exercise, mandated by the EC for the Suhum, Nsawam Adoagyiri, Fanteakwa North, and Akwatia constituencies, arguing that it lacked legal justification.
These constituencies have been at the centre of disputes over the initial collation of results.
In a statement, the NPC called on political parties to resolve their grievances through legal channels. The council also urged the EC to convene an urgent meeting of the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC), involving all political party representatives and key stakeholders, to find a consensus and break the current deadlock.
“Our checks with partners have also confirmed that the collation exercise at Tesano Police Training School was at the instance of the EC and not any political party or the Ghana Police Service.”
The NPC assured to continue to speak with all relevant stakeholders to resolve this matter and ensure a peaceful resolution.
