An explosion at Bogobiri in the Obuasi Municipality in the Ashanti region has killed one person and left seven others severely injured.
According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the explosion occurred at a garage in the afternoon of Friday, December 13.
A statement by the GNFS said the blast sparked an inferno, which was brought under control by three firefighting teams from nearby stations.
It added that the incident affected three metal containers and 2 sandcrete buildings.
“Unfortunately, one (1) victim has been reported dead, and seven (7) others who sustained severe injuries have been hospitalised in Obuasi and Kumasi,” the GNFS said.
Meanwhile, the cause of the blast is yet to be ascertained.
This comes months after a premix fuel explosion at Ngyiresia in the Western region.
The incident occurred Saturday, May 18, 2024, when fishermen were transporting premix fuel in gallons to their canoes along the beach.
It claimed six lives and left several others injured.
The explosion also damaged two stationary vehicles and some nearby wooden structures.
