The Electoral Commission (EC) has stopped the 2024 election collation exercises at the Tesano Police Training School in Accra, following an injunction by the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Subsequently, the election management body is engaging with political parties to find an amicable solution to various concerns raised by different aggrieved groups.
The EC requested to use the venue for maximum security due to skirmishes, attacks, and violence that broke out at various locations across the country.
Consequently, the EC had to depart from collations at various regions and conduct re-collation of results from the Eastern Region and the Bono East Region in Accra.
However, following disagreements over the exercise, it has been halted indefinitely.
Prior to the decision, the NDC had filed a court injunction to suspend the re-collation of parliamentary results for the Nsawam Adoagyiri constituency.
The incumbent NPP MP, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, and his closest contender, the NDC’s Philibert Amenorpe Fummey, are both claiming victory in the polls.
According to Mr Annoh-Dompreh, he won the election with a difference of 210 votes, citing the provisional results from the Electoral Commission (EC).
On Thursday, December 12, 2024, the EC instructed a re-collation of results from four constituencies in the Eastern Region, which are Suhum, Nsawam, Fanteakwa North, and Akwatia.
The disagreement from both parties dragged the collation process to a second day.
At the collation today, the NDC raised concerns about discrepancies in the Electoral Commission’s original pink sheets, leading to the filing of the court injunction.
