Jubilee House announces deadline for return of government vehicles by appointees

The Office of the President has issued a clear directive to all government appointees to return official vehicles in their possession by January 3, 2025. 

The directive, which reiterates the policy on the acquisition of government vehicles, comes as the current administration approaches the end of its term.

In a release issued by the Communications Directorate of Jubilee House, the President’s Office reminded outgoing Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Regional Ministers, Special Assistants, SpecialAides to the President and Vice President, as well as other political appointees, of the established rules regarding the use of government vehicles.

“All government vehicles in the possession of these appointees must be returned to the Chief Director of the relevant Ministries no later than Friday, 3rd January 2025,” the statement read.

The policy, which was first introduced following President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s first term in 2020, prohibits political appointees from acquiring government vehicles. While previous administrations allowed appointees to purchase a single official saloon vehicle, this practice has been discontinued under President Akufo-Addo’s administration. The directive, in full effect, as the President completes his second and final term, underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring accountability and responsible management of state resources.

The release also clarified that the directive applies to all Ministers of State, Deputy Ministers, Regional Ministers, Special Assistants, Special Aides, and other political appointees, including those serving on Statutory Boards and Corporations.

The Office of the President has called on all affected appointees to cooperate in adhering to this important measure as the current administration transitions.
