The National Peace Council (NPC) has condemned a shooting incident at Nyankpala in the Northern Region.

A clash between some members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Tolon constituency resulted in the death of one person and left another severely injured.

In a statement with the West Africa Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP) and other partners in the Election Situation Room, the NPC expressed sympathy to the families of the victims while strongly denouncing the incident.

“We condemn in the strongest possible terms the killing and injury of any person during the elections. This violence is unacceptable, and we extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of those affected, as well as to the local community in Nyankpala and other regions impacted by similar acts of violence,” the NPC said.

The NPC also condemned the use of firearms in the electoral process.

It continued to remind the political parties of the commitment made during the signing of the 4th Presidential Elections Peace Pact on November 28, 2024, where party leaders pledged to promote a peaceful environment before, during, and after the elections.

Meanwhile, the police have arrested four individuals in connection with the shooting incident.

The suspects are Majid Issah, Fodi Issiage Kamara, Yakubu Simaila, and Alhaji Bashiru Mohammed.
