Black Stars paid the price for poor future planning – Ibrahim Sunday laments

Former African Footballer of the Year Ibrahim Sunday has attributed Ghana’s recent football struggles to a lack of strategic planning during the Black Stars’ golden years.

The Black Stars’ historic World Cup debut in 2006, followed by appearances in 2010 and 2014, brought global recognition. In the 2010 AFCON, they hosted Egypt in a memorable final, narrowly losing 1-0.

However, as stars retired or moved on, Sunday believes there was no deliberate effort to replace them with equally talented players.

“This is a big matter the issue is that when the team was doing well we didn’t plan we didn’t prepare for the future that is why our future is hard for us now. I believe that is part we didn’t prepare for our future so by all means it will be difficult for us,” Sunday explained in a monitored interview.

Sunday’s comments are a call to action for a structured football development plan, ensuring Ghana’s football legacy endures beyond individual golden generations.
