Ghana’s Parliament is set to reconvene on Monday, December 16, 2024, to wrap up its seventh meeting of the fourth session of the Eighth Parliament of the Fourth Republic.

According to a statement signed by Speaker Alban Bagbin, the sitting will commence at 10 am, although the exact location is yet to be announced.

This development comes after a tumultuous period for the Eighth Parliament, embroiled in a legal dispute over Speaker Bagbin’s decision to declare four parliamentary seats vacant.

The move was met with widespread criticism and debate, leading to the indefinite adjournment of the House.

The Supreme Court ultimately intervened, ruling on November 12, 2024, that the declaration was unconstitutional.

Despite calls from Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin to reconvene Parliament to address pressing state matters, Speaker Bagbin maintained that the House would only be recalled after the December 7 election.
