Atiwa East MP Abena Osei-Asare rewards 41 teachers for outstanding excellence
Teachers are often told that their rewards await them in heaven, but the MP for Atiwa East, Abena Osei-Asare, has ensured the hard work of these tutors is acknowledged on earth.
As part of the MP’s initiatives, 41 teachers and retirees in her constituency have been honoured for their dedication to education.
The awardees received cash prizes, motorbikes, refrigerators, and other incentives in recognition of their efforts and to motivate others to excel in the field.
The MP’s Maiden Teachers’ Awards was held at Anyinam in the Eastern Region on the theme, “Teacher Education and Professionalism: A Key Character to Educating the 21st Century Child.”
Fawzia Nuhu, a pupil’s teacher at Moseaso Presby Primary School, emerged as the overall best teacher in the district, receiving a deep freezer, a royal motorbike, a flat-screen television, and a cash prize of GH¢10,000.
The various award categories were as follows:
- Outstanding Headteacher
- Best JHS teacher
- Best Primary teacher
- Best KG teacher
- Teacher with impact
- Teacher at deprived area
- Two awards for private schools.
- Four awards for retiree teachers
In her speech, Mrs Osei-Asare, The Most Vocal Female MP In Parliament, reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to the holistic development of education and the welfare of teachers.
Mrs. Osei-Asare, the Minister of State at the Finance Ministry, further encouraged teachers to embrace lifelong learning to adapt to the 21st century.
She encouraged teachers to foster values in students to shape responsible citizens, pursue continuous professional development, and act as mentors to inspire and guide their students.

The ceremony was attended by education officials, teachers, and community leaders, who all praised the MP’s initiative to recognise and reward teachers.
This forms part of many initiatives by the MP, hailed by constituents as a mother for all.
Other initiatives by the Atiwa East MP
The latest gesture adds to the tall list of developmental and well-being projects undertaken by Mrs Osei-Asare in her constituency.
In October 2024, the Atiwa East MP gifted the NPP an ultra-modern office complex in the constituency for the Eastern Region.
The Good Life Insurance Policy covered an initial 665 individuals from various groups within the Atiwa East Constituency.
This was done in collaboration with Donewell Life and RINGFENCE Insurance and aimed to provide life insurance coverage to the beneficiaries.
The insurance package covered death, permanent disability, temporary disability, critical illness, and medical expenses.
From the first day she gained the mandate to represent the people of Atiwa East, her priority had been providing jobs for her people, with initiatives that benefitted over 600 young people in permanent economic activities.
Through her Waterbrooke Foundation, she supported hundreds of brilliant but needy students even before the NPP government introduced the flagship Free Senior High School (SHS) initiative.
Over 500 tertiary students have benefitted from financial support and scholarships for further studies under her watch.
Her tenure has also seen the construction of a Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) centre, classroom blocks, and the provision of learning materials such as computers to schools in her constituency.
Mrs Osei-Asare has spearheaded interventions via boreholes for water provision for over 30 communities and toilet facilities for many areas.
With the welfare of her people of great concern, she has improved health facilities for her constituents, including the construction of a 20-unit maternity block, a doctors’ flat, the donation of medical equipment and the renovation of a laboratory.
Infrastructure such as roads, telecommunications, and rural electrification projects are part of the various projects to her credit.
Soft loans, training and apprenticeship programmes, start-up equipment, and support for small businesses in her community are part of her initiatives.
