A brazen attack by armed men on the Wenchi-Sunyani Highway in the Bono region has left travellers shaken.
The incident occurred on Wednesday night, around 8:20 p.m. when seven armed men armed with AK-47 rifles targeted several vehicles and robbed passengers of their valuables.
The Bono Regional Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Cynthia Anima Boadu, was one of the victims caught up in the harrowing incident after attending a parliamentary dialogue in the Banda constituency.
The operation lasted over 40 minutes, with the suspects making off with money, phones, and other valuables.
This incident is the latest in a string of armed robberies in the Bono region.
Just two days earlier, on November 26, 2024, a gang ambushed the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Party (NDP), Alhaji Mohammed Frimpong, and his entourage.
The victims of the latest robbery have filed a complaint at the Wenchi police station, highlighting concerns about safety along the region’s highways.
