The only way forward is to dissolve the Black Stars and start fresh – Ernest Thompson

Former Black Stars Management Committee member, Ernest Thompson, believes the only viable solution to the Black Stars’ decline is a complete overhaul of the team.

The seasoned football administrator has pointed to internal conflicts and divisions within the squad, which he argues are stalling progress. Thompson’s call for drastic action follows Ghana’s failure to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) for the first time in over 20 years.

For the first time in AFCON qualifying history, the Black Stars finished bottom of their group, failing to secure a single win.

“This team [Black Stars] is a beleaguered team; it’s a divided team. The only way out, whether you change Kurt Okraku or bring in George Afriyie, is to dissolve that team and form a new one, saying bye-bye to some of them,” Thompson said on Joy FM.

“They’ve done their best. When you start the team again with a new technical team, this team will rise. That’s why I said there’s light at the end of the tunnel.”

The Ghana Football Association’s Executive Council is set to convene on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, to make a critical decision on the future of Black Stars head coach Otto Addo.
