“Some of his decisions did not help us”- Sannie Daara on Otto Addo’s treatment of Andre Ayew
Former Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association, Ibrahim Sannie Daara believes the total neglect of Andre Ayew by Otto Addo massively affected the Black Stars’ AFCON qualification run.
The four-time African champions failed to qualify for the continent’s flagship tournament for the first time in 20 years after finishing bottom of Group F of the qualifiers.
Despite advocating for the stay of the German-trained coach, Daara highlighted some of Addo’s shortfalls and believes he will build on that experience.
“The point of taking the decision not to come along with Andre Ayew, at a time that he himself has not taken a decision to exclude himself from the team and he was back playing,” he told Joy FM.
“I think he should have left the window open for Andre to make a decision by himself, and that would have endeared him to a lot of people.
“You hear a lot of the ex-players say the way we retire players, complain the way we retire players is not the right way, and I thought Otto could have better handled the situation.”
Ayew has not been part of the Black Stars since March’s international friendlies against Nigeria and Uganda.
The veteran forward returned to France to rejoin Le Havre on a deal until the end of the campaign.
