GNPC warns public to stay alert against social media scammers
The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) has advised the public to stay alert about a fraudulent social media page using its name and logo for deceptive business activities.
The corporation specifically cautioned people to avoid engaging with a page under the handle “GNPC Invest.”
In a press release dated Monday, November 25, and signed by the Manager of Corporate Affairs, Eric Pwadura, GNPC urged: “We strongly advise the public not to interact with this page or share any personal information.”
“Please be advised that GNPC does not operate any investment platforms, and any claims or advertisements suggesting otherwise are false and unauthorized,” the statement read.
The statement also revealed that the corporation had reported the fraudulent social media page to the Police Cybersecurity Unit and encouraged the public to report any similar pages for appropriate action.
“The Corporation has informed the Police Cybersecurity Unit about the fraudulent social media page. Stay vigilant and report any suspicious pages impersonating GNPC and its subsidiaries to help protect our community from potential scams,” the statement read.
Lastly, the statement urged the public to visit the official GNPC website at www.gnpcghana.com and follow the corporation’s verified social media channels for accurate information and updates.
The GNPC was established as a State-owned entity to operate on a commercial basis. The corporation was given legal backing through two main statutes i.e. PNDC Laws 64 and 84.
The corporation’s vision is to become a leading global oil and gas company whose operations have a profound impact on the quality of life of the people of Ghana.
