Abigail Quartey emerges as Ghana’s first women’s Boxing Champion

Abigail Kwartekaa Quartey has cemented her name in history as the first ever female Ghanaian world champion after defeating the United Kingdom’s Sangeeta Birdie at the Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra, Ghana.

Quartey showed considerable skill and endurance over the length of the bout to triumph over Sangeeta by unanimous decision to claim the IBF Super Bantamweight title on Sunday, November 24, 2024.

Overwhelming her opponent, scoring 98-91 from all three Judges, this groundbreaking win improves Abigail’s bout record to 9 wins in 10 bouts having a record of 6 knockouts and registering a single loss.

Currently she is ranked number one in Ghana and 50th in the entire division globally among 170 boxers.
