President Nana Akufo-Addo has commissioned a state-of-the-art Oil and Gas Services Terminal at the Takoradi Port, reaffirming his government’s commitment to maintaining Tema and Takoradi Ports as competitive gateways for international trade and regional integration.
The terminal aims to create a world-class logistics hub within the port, featuring offshore supply vessel (OSV) berthing facilities and a 200,000-square-meter serviced land area to support offshore oil and gas exploration and production activities.
It includes a 550-meter quay wall with a 10-meter draft, operational offices, workshops, storage facilities, and a one-stop shop for oilfield operators and logistics providers.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, President Akufo-Addo stated, “This bold step showcases Ghana’s progress in becoming a leading hub for oil and gas services.”
He highlighted the terminal’s ability to streamline offshore supply services, enhance heavy engineering and fabrication, and provide comprehensive support for the petroleum industry.
The Takoradi Port already houses the Atlantic Container, Multipurpose Terminal, and a new dry bulk terminal.
The president emphasised that these investments in port infrastructure underscore his government’s commitment to boosting Ghana’s economic competitiveness.
President Akufo-Addo also reiterated plans to establish Ghana’s third commercial port in Keta Municipality, Volta Region, noting that significant progress has been made, including feasibility studies, stakeholder engagements, and environmental impact assessments.
Michael Luguje, Director General of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), invited industry players to utilize the new facility, stating, “The terminal is now ready, and we encourage the oil and gas sector to settle here and take advantage of our one-stop shop.”
The Takoradi Oil and Gas Services Terminal was funded by GPHA, with China Harbour Engineering as the contractor.
The project includes dredged berth pockets, a 1.9-kilometre access road with storm drainage, utility service ducts, and extensive concrete-paved storage yards.
