Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr George Akuffo Dampare has entreated Ghanaians to support the police in maintaining peace and security during the 2024 general elections by identifying and reporting individuals who threaten national stability.

Dr. Dampare emphasised the importance of community collaboration in preventing election-related violence, highlighting that public vigilance is critical to addressing potential security risks.

“We may not reach everybody, so what it means is that there could be a few others who still think they can attempt to disturb the peace of this country. Those people, you may be in the community, you may hear of them, you may see them. Our prayer is to allow yourself to be used as a vessel of God to let us know those people so we can give them a place designated for them,” he stated.

Dr. George Akuffo Dampare made this appeal while addressing members of the Assemblies of God Church in Accra on Sunday, November 24. His remarks were part of a broader outreach programme by the Ghana Police Service, aimed at educating church congregations in Accra on the importance of maintaining peace during voting.

Dr. Dampare reassured the public that the police are fully prepared to act decisively against anyone attempting to disrupt the peace.

He emphasized that adequate facilities are in place to detain individuals who engage in unlawful activities during the election period.

“As we speak, the police cells have vacancies, the prisons have vacancies. So that proactively, we move them out of our community and keep them where they want to be kept so that we continue to live our lives to the fullest during the rest of the election period and beyond,” the IGP added.
