Northern Regional Pickleball Association hosts 2024 tournament in Tamale
The Northern Regional Pickleball Association successfully hosted the 2024 Regional Pickleball Tournament in Tamale, drawing sports enthusiasts and players from across the region.
The event, held under the leadership of the Northern Regional Chairman of the Association, Dr. John Stephen Agbenyo, aimed to promote the sport and increase participation among residents.
Speaking at the tournament, Dr. Agbenyo highlighted the growing popularity of pickleball globally and underscored its potential as a recreational and competitive sport in the region.
He encouraged the residents of Tamale to take an active interest in the game, emphasizing its accessibility to people of all ages and skill levels.
In a bid to nurture young talent, Dr Agbenyo announced plans to introduce pickleball into senior high schools across the region in the coming months.
This initiative, he explained, seeks to inspire young people to engage in the sport, fostering a new generation of pickleball enthusiasts and players.
“The future of pickleball in our region looks promising,” Dr. Agbenyo said. “By introducing the game into schools, we are creating a foundation for youth participation and building a strong pipeline of talent for the sport.”
The tournament showcased thrilling matches, with players demonstrating skill, strategy, and teamwork. Spectators expressed their excitement and praised the Association’s efforts in organizing the event.
Many attendees echoed Dr. Agbenyo’s sentiments, expressing hope that the game will gain widespread popularity in the region.

Results
The tournament ended with Reggie beating Robert in the men’s singles finals while Cynthia beat Posh in the women’s singles finals.
In the junior veterans finals, Steve beat Roy to win gold in that category.
While in the men’s double finals, Robert and Mark beat Harry and Steve to win gold.
