The Member of Parliament (MP) for Tamale Central, Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, says his decision regarding the next parliamentary recall will be guided by the directives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) party.
This follows a recent instruction by the Chairman of the NDC Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, for the party’s legislators to boycott any emergency recall of Parliament.
According to him, such sessions are aimed at advancing a corrupt agenda.
Speaking to supporters in the Western Region on Saturday, November 16, Asiedu Nketiah alleged that with the December 7 polls fast approaching, the Majority Caucus has no genuine justification to reconvene Parliament other than to pursue dubious objectives.
Commenting on the party chairman’s directive, Mr Murtala stressed that Mr Nketia’s directive aligns with the views of his constituents in Tamale Central.
He noted that the overwhelming sentiment from his daily engagements with the community is to reject the parliamentary recall.
Mohammed also reaffirmed that his role as a representative in Parliament is rooted in the will and vision of the people of Tamale, and he would adhere to their wishes in any decision he makes.
“I belong to a party and I represent a constituency. I came to parliament through the decision of the party and the vision of the people. Therefore whatever the party decides is certainly what the majority of the people in Tamale Central will agree to.
“I can tell you, if we are to pick the decision of the people of Tamale Central, overwhelmingly they think we shouldn’t even go to parliament and this information is based on the responses gathered from my daily community engagement with the assemblymen, and the people of Tamale central.”
