BOSAG officially unveiled; positioning Ghana as Africa’s premier BPO destination
The German Cooperation, Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), and other key stakeholders officially launched the Business Outsourcing Services Association of Ghana (BOSAG) in Accra on November 12.
This is a significant move to establish Ghana as Africa’s top choice for business process outsourcing (BPO).
The BOSAG launch is a critical step in Ghana’s strategic effort to enter the global BPO and IT outsourcing (ITO) market, valued at approximately $1.01 trillion with a workforce of 43 million worldwide.
With a skilled English-speaking talent pool, stable internet, solid real estate infrastructure, and reliable power, Ghana is well-positioned to become a premier outsourcing destination in Africa.
At the launch event, the GBS Partnership Forum, John Duti of Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH highlighted BPO’s potential for transforming Ghana’s economy.
“We are aware of how the Philippines, once heavily dependent on agriculture, transformed into a global BPO powerhouse, employing over 1.3 million people and generating around $30 billion annually,” said Mr. Duti, Team Leader of Invest for Jobs at GIZ.
“In Africa, Egypt and South Africa have taken the lead. Ghana is equally in a position to do the same as the global focus shifts toward Africa.”
The forum also saw the official handover of the “GBS Action Plan” to the Government of Ghana via the GIPC.
This 12-page document, developed by industry stakeholders and facilitated by German Cooperation, outlines how Ghana can leverage the BPO sector to drive job creation and economic growth.
GIPC CEO Yofi Grant noted that BOSAG’s launch and the GBS Action Plan align with Ghana’s vision to grow its digital sector and foster innovation.
“The GIPC, in collaboration with stakeholders like BOSAG and the German Cooperation, is committed to leveraging Ghana’s competitive advantages to attract global companies and position Ghana as Africa’s preferred outsourcing destination. We will diligently implement the action plan to create a thriving BPO ecosystem in Ghana,” he stated.
BOSAG Board Chairman Kojo Afedzi Hayford urged industry players to join the association to establish BOSAG as the authoritative voice for Ghana’s BPO sector.
“BOSAG will not only advance the interests of member companies through trade facilitation and showcasing Ghana to global customers as a credible outsourcing destination, but it will also partner with the government to create a supportive environment for the BPO and ITO industry,” he emphasised.
Organised by GIZ as part of the Invest for Jobs initiative, the Global Business Services (GBS) Partnership Forum provided a platform for networking and collaboration among stakeholders to drive Ghana’s BPO and ITO sectors forward.
