Robbers bolt with GH₵1m in cocoa depot heist

Suspected armed robbers attacked a cocoa depot in Fomena, Ashanti Region, and escaped with over GH₵1 million.

According to eyewitnesses, the four masked men, who were armed with assault rifles attacked the cocoa depot on November 14, 2024, around 6:20 pm.

They reportedly shot at a vehicle belonging to the District Cocoa Officer when they entered the premises.

This prompted the workers to call the police and notify them about the ongoing robbery.

However, before the police arrived, the robbers had escaped into a nearby bush with the booty.

Meanwhile, a combined team of police personnel from New Edubiasi and Adansi Fomena have launched a hunt for the suspects believed to be hiding in neighbouring communities.

This comes after four heavily armed men robbed a jewellery shop at Adabraka on Saturday, November 2, 2024.

Reports indicate that the robbers made away with more than GHs6 million.

According to eyewitnesses, the robbers approached the vehicle containing the money in front of the shop and fired multiple shots into the air to disperse the crowd.

Shoppers and vendors scrambled for cover, ducking behind stalls and rushing to safety as gunfire echoed through the area.

The robbers forced their way into the Toyota and grabbed the large sacks of cash.

Within minutes, they loaded the bags into their getaway vehicle and fled the scene, still firing shots to keep bystanders at bay.
