The Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) has directed its members to return to work as it announced the immediate suspension of its strike.
The association declared an industrial action on November 7 following the expiration of an October 31 deadline for the government to meet their demands.
According to the group, this was due to the prolonged delay in finalizing a salary structure for staff implemented from January 1, 2025.
However, on November 7, the National Labour Commission (NLC) requested an Accra High Court to issue an interim injunction against the ongoing industrial action.
The court, after hearing the application, ordered the association to halt the strike.
In a statement dated November 11, 2024, the leadership of the group said they had called off the strike following the court order.
“Being a law-abiding Association, CLOGSAG has taken into cognisance the injunction order. CLOGSAG hereby calls off the strike with immediate effect. CLOGSAG has decided to call off the strike due to its utmost respect for the Court and the laws of Ghana.
“All members are entreated to report to work. CLOGSAG assures members of its unrelenting efforts of ensuring better conditions of service for all,” the statement read.
This came after the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) fought back the strike, insisting the association had yet to respond to the government offer on the new salary structure presented to the association.
The commission further appealed to the group to call off the strike and return to negotiations.
