Man, 73, hangs in Kumasi
A 73-year-old man has done the unthinkable as he has allegedly ended his life through hanging at Suame, a suburb of Kumasi, the capital of the Ashanti Region.
Identified by police as Kwame Agyiri, who is nicknamed ‘Agya’, the deceased was found hanging on a yellow rope, which was tied to a window metal guard of a storey building.
A co-tenant of the house, Lydia Antwi, who spotted the gory scene on the morning of November 2, 2024, reportedly, blew the alarm, after which the case was reported to the police.
Investigations are currently underway to unearth whether Agya indeed committed suicide or if there is foul play.
A Suame Divisional Police statement, read, “On November 2, 2024 at 0600 hours, Lydia Antwi of Suame-Kumasi accompanied by Matilda Otoo, came to the charge office and reported that about 0400 hours same day, she woke up to sweep their compound and on getting to the back of their kitchen, saw a co-tenant called Kwame Agyiri, aka Agya, hanging lifeless and tied to a window metal of a storey building.”
“On receipt of the information, the investigator and complainant proceeded to the scene and saw the elderly man about 73 years hanged with a yellow rope fastened against his room metal window guard of the storey house, and the other end of the rope tied on his neck and hanging,” the statement added.
According to the police, “Three kitchen stools were also seen beside his legs behind the house’s kitchen at the ground floor.”
The police report concluded that the “body was inspected, photographed and untied. Subsequently, it was conveyed and deposited at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) mortuary for further action.”
