Afcon 2025Q: Jordan Ayew to captain Ghana for Angola and Niger games
Leicester City striker Jordan Ayew captain will be the Black Stars of Ghana for the AFCON 2025 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers against Angola and Niger.
This follows a decision by Ghana coach Otto Addo, announced at Thursday’s presser for the two matches.
Speaking on Thursday, Otto Addo suggested the switch to Jordan Ayew, may be for the long haul.
‘The initiative was to make Thomas the captain to guide the team. But once he is not there, I had to speak to Kudus and I made the decision to make him the captain in Thomas’ absence.’’ Otto Addo told journalists at the Ghana Football Association’s secretariat.
Otto further disclosed that he held significant talks with Kudus Mohammed before to iron things out.
‘‘I have decided to pick a new captain for the team which will be Jordan. So I talked to Kudus for him to understand that I will want him to grow into the role and be the second captain alongside Djiku.’’
‘‘Jordan will take over now, from now and he will lead and guide the team.’’
Ghana were captained by West Ham star Kudus Mohammed for last month’s double header against Sudan
The Black Stars will face Angola on November 15 in Luanda, before facing Niger three days later, in Accra.
Ghana is currently third in Group F, scoring two points out of four games.
