GPL: Heart of Lions coach Bashir Hayford handed five-match ban
In a recent regulatory update from the Ghana Football Association (GFA), experienced football coach Bashir Hayford has been handed a five-match suspension following an incident in the Ghana Premier League.
The GFA’s Disciplinary Committee found Hayford guilty of unsporting conduct directed towards match officials during the Match Day 7 fixture between Karela United and Heart of Lions, held at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium.
According to the committee’s findings, Hayford’s behaviour crossed the line of acceptable conduct, with the coach reportedly engaging in verbal abuse toward the match officials.
The GFA maintains strict standards of respect and professionalism, especially concerning interactions between coaches, players, and officials. This action reinforces the association’s commitment to ensuring a respectful and fair atmosphere in all matches.
In addition to the match suspension, Hayford has been slapped with a GHC 5,000 fine as a financial penalty for his behaviour.
The GFA has made it clear that further misconduct from Hayford will attract even more severe consequences, signalling a zero-tolerance stance toward unsporting behaviour within Ghanaian football.
