2024/25 GPL: Heart of Lions pull off major upset against Asante Kotoko

Asante Kotoko suffered another defeat in the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League, this time at the hands of Heart of Lions.

The match, which took place on November 1, 2024, at the Len Clay Stadium, ended 1-0 in favor of Heart of Lions.

Kwadwo Obeng Jr. scored the lone goal in the 28th minute after Asante Kotoko’s goalkeeper, Mohamed Camara, made an error that allowed Obeng Jr. to slot the ball into an empty net.

This loss marks Asante Kotoko’s second consecutive defeat of the season. Despite dominating possession with 62% and attempting 10 shots, Asante Kotoko couldn’t find a way past Heart of Lions’ resilient defense.

Asante Kotoko has now dropped from second to third place on the league table. They’ll look to regroup in their next fixture away against Bechem United.

Meanwhile, Heart of Lions climbed to seventh and will look to build on this momentum when they host Berekum Chelsea in their next match.
