GFA hosts critical safeguarding session on player trafficking for Black Satellites
The Head of the Ghana FA’s Safeguarding Unit and WAFU Zone B Safeguarding has conducted an essential session to raise awareness about player trafficking for the U-20 national team, the Black Satellites.
Held at the team’s hotel in Lomé, Togo, this initiative is part of CAF’s “Protect the Dream” program, which aims to prevent the exploitation of young players across Africa.
Facilitated by GFA’s Safeguarding Officer, Obed Tuffour, the session provided valuable insights on how young players can protect themselves from trafficking threats and false promises.
Tuffour presented alongside Mr Bienvenu Sinko, WAFU Zone B’s Safeguarding Officer, and Mr Ralph from the WAFU Research team, delivering a comprehensive overview of human trafficking, particularly its implications within football.
The presentation highlighted tactics commonly used by traffickers, such as fake contracts and unlicensed academies, urging players to remain vigilant.
Ghanaian football legend Samuel Opoku Nti shared his experience, encouraging discipline and attentiveness to guidance from coaches to avoid manipulation by fake agents.
Additionally, Black Satellites’ Assistant Coach Nii Odartey Lamptey stressed the importance of understanding contract terms and warned against signing agreements without clear details.
