Haruna Rashid, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Nasara Coordinator for Agona West Constituency is in critical condition after he was shot during a campaign in Agona Nyarkrom, in the Central Region.

The incident unfolded around 9:00 p.m. while Rashid was travelling with the convoy of Agona West NPP parliamentary candidate Chris Arthur.

The unfortunate incident left three others injured.

The police reported that supporters of Chris Arthur and Cynthia Morrison, a rival candidate, clashed in the same area, resulting in gun violence.

Tensions escalated when Mr Arthur’s convoy encountered a roadblock set up by supporters of Cynthia Morrison.

As the convoy attempted to turn away, shots were fired, and Rashid, who also serves as Mr. Arthur’s campaign manager, was struck in the ribs.

Mr Arthur confirmed the incident.

He described how unidentified individuals first poured alcohol on their driver, causing him to lose control before two men approached and shot Rashid.

Rashid was initially rushed to the Agona Swedru Municipal Hospital and later transferred to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital for further treatment due to the severity of his injuries.

Alhaji Jibri Tanko, the Chairman of the Agona West NPP Constituency, has condemned the violence and warned all supporters to refrain from any acts of violence.

“We will not allow anyone to intimidate us in this election,” he noted.

Two supporters of Cynthia Morrison were also injured by gunfire and are receiving treatment at the Agona Nyarkrom Health Center as investigations continue.
