MUSIGA To Support Musicians

The Musicians Union of Ghana has undertaken a series of initiatives and events to support its members and the Ghanaian music industry.

These activities are part of the union’s commitment to improve the welfare of musicians and promote the growth of Ghanaian music and culture.

According to the MUSIGA President, Bessa Simons, “These initiatives are part of the programmes by the new executives of MUSIGA to shepherd the union to a new level following the past four years of turmoil, and we will continue to work for the improvement of the lot of our members and the Ghanaian music industry.”

The MUSIGA President, on the first anniversary of the current administration in office, highlighted some initiatives which include the renewal of its partnership with SIC Life Insurance for the third year.

He added that the scheme will provide essential benefits like GH¢5,000 for deceased members, permanent disability support and child and parental benefits.

As part of MUSIGA’s strategy to increase its influence and support structure, the union has launched a nationwide membership campaign drive. The campaign highlights the benefits of joining the union, including access to workshops, insurance coverage, and vital industry resources.

Again, the union has also organised a series of national capacity-building workshops in Accra, Kumasi and Tamale to empower musicians and industry leaders with digital tools for revenue generation and improving gender equality in the music industry, which was sponsored by the Ghana Skills Development Fund (GSDF).

The initiative involves the training of thirty-two trainers and the establishment of a Technical Support Centre to assist musicians in navigating the evolving digital landscape.

The aim of MUSIGA is to unite musicians under a strong banner that ensures the welfare, growth, and success of its members by championing the rights and welfare of Ghanaian musicians as well as support, educate and promote the talents of its members.

MUSIGA is set to launch its Golden Jubilee celebration on Thursday, October 31, 2024.
