I resigned as Black Starlets coach because the environment wasn’t healthy – Laryea Kingston
Former Ghana U-17 head coach Laryea Kingston has stated that he stepped down due to an “unhealthy environment” for coaching.
His resignation followed the Black Starlets’ unsuccessful bid to qualify for the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations after losing in the semifinals of the WAFU B U-17 tournament held in Accra earlier this year.
Many were shocked by his decision to leave, given the good football his team played prior to the WAFU tournament in Ghana.
He has now opened up about his choice to resign as Ghana U-17 head coach.
“I don’t think it’s a runaway. This is a typical example of how you should work hard and not only work hard when people are watching you. As soon as I resigned then the emails started coming,” he told Joy Sports.
“The environment was not healthy for me so that is the more reason why I resigned.”
Since resigning, Kingston has accepted a new position as head coach at RPS Academies in the United States, where he looks forward to nurturing young talent.
