Swimming: 2024 Africa Aquatics Zone II Junior and Senior championships starts today

The Borteyman Sports Complex’s Aquatic Center is set to come alive today, October 7, 2024, as Ghana hosts the prestigious 2024 Africa Aquatics Zone II Junior and Senior Swimming Championships.

After Nigeria’s withdrawal, Ghana stepped in as host, building on its success from the 13th African Games in March, where Ghanaian swimmers clinched three medals.

This time, the spotlight will return to the same venue, with 19 countries [Equatorial Guinea, Cameroon, Cote d’Ivoire, Gambia, Mali, Nigeria, Niger, Togo, Guinea, Cape Verde, Central Africa Republic, Gabon, Congo DR, Sierra Leone, Senegal etc.] competing for medals across various events including the 100m and 200m freestyle for both men and women, the 400m individual medley, the 50m backstroke, the 4x100m freestyle relay, the 4x200m relay, the 200m backstroke, and the 100m butterfly.

In a format where all events will be direct finals, medals will be awarded over the course of the three-day competition at the Borteyman Sports Complex in Accra.

Having successfully hosted the junior edition of this championship in August 2023—where they clinched 22 medals—Ghana is no stranger to organizing top-tier aquatics events.
