Heed calls to put an end to illegal mining – Frimpong Boateng tells Akufo-Addo

“I wish to call on our President of the Republic, to heed the call of citizens, Civil Society Organizations, professional, academic, research institutions and trade unions to bring an end to the destruction to our forests, farmlands, water bodies and the associated biodiversity. The very existence and future of Ghana are at stake, and Mr. President, I know you care,” Prof Kwabena Frimpong Boateng, a former Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation has said,

Speaking at the grand durbar of the 2024 Yam festival celebration of the people of the Asogli State in Ho on Saturday [October 5, 2024], Prof Frimpong Boateng said: “there is one thing I know very well which I want you to note, that is, disobedience and destruction of nature will not be endured for too long.”

“Soon, the holy and righteous God of nature, who rules over all creations and the universe will destroy those who violate his creation,” he cautioned.

Prof Frimpong Boateng said the country’s existence is at stake and called on the President and his government to act immediately to avert the threats posed by the illegal mining activities.

He said President Akufo-Addo ought to heed to the calls from citizens to put an end to the menace of illegal mining which is destroying the country’s environment, particularly water bodies.
