Sports Ministry directs NSA to apply strict maintenance schedules for stadia
The Youth and Sports Ministry has directed the National Sports Authority to implement strict maintenance schedules for the upkeep of the national stadium.
This was stated in a release from the Ministry on Thursday after CAF granted temporary approval for the Accra Sports Stadium to host the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Sudan on Friday, October 11.
Prior to the approval, CAF had instructed the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to select an alternative venue for the game after withdrawing its approval for the Baba Yara Stadium to host it.
This meant Ghana was set to play a home game outside the country for the first time in history, but that has now been averted.
“While welcoming CAF’s decision, the Ministry wishes to reiterate its commitment to ensuring sports infrastructure and facilities at our national stadia meet the highest standards for international sporting competitions,” the Sports Ministry’s statement said.
“In line with this, the Ministry has directed the National Sports Authority (NSA) to, henceforth, apply strict maintenance schedule for our national stadia and other facilities.”
