Prison officer lynched at Kasoa

A prison officer stationed at the Nsawam Maximum Prison, Gideon Adu Boakye, has been lynched at Kasoa Iron City, in the Central Region.

Information gathered indicates that he was visiting his parents when the devastating incident occurred.

According to sources, Gideon was attacked about 100 meters from the roadside, stabbed, and his lifeless body dumped in a nearby gutter.

Residents who heard his pleas reported that the assailants showed no mercy.

The Ghana Prisons Service confirmed that his body was found near Hope of Restoration School, close to Red Ball, days after the incident.

Gideon’s brother, Eric Akoto, described him as a calm and gentle soul in his early 30s, with no wife or child.

The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Police Hospital Mortuary for preservation.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has launched an investigation into the alleged lynching.

Eyewitnesses claim Gideon was mistaken for a thief, leading to the tragic outcome.

The Ghana Prisons Service is collaborating with the police to bring the perpetrators to book, according to Public Relations Officer Supt. Adamu Latif Abdul.

“We heard on October 1 that one of our officers was unfortunately lynched at Kasoa. That is the information we have gathered so far. The police have commenced investigations into the whole issue.

“We have gathered that he went to visit his mother, and he went out to attend to some issues and the incident happened. Days later when he didn’t return the mother reported to the police.

“The issue is in the hands of the police, and we are waiting to find out what actually happened,” the Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Prisons Service said.
