LA Galaxy star Joseph Paintsil identifies key area to strengthen ahead of MLS playoffs
Ghana winger Joseph Paintsil believes Los Angeles Galaxy have a chance of winning the Major League Soccer championship if they improve their defence ahead of the play-offs.
Paintsil netted his tenth goal of the season as LA Galaxy defeated Vancouver Whitecaps 4-2 to strengthen their grip at the top of the Western Conference table. He also becomes the fourth player at LA Galaxy to score ten or more goals this season in the MLS, a record in the league.
The five-time champions have already clinched their place in the play-0ffs and Painstil remains keen on winning the championship in his first season.
“I think we are already doing great. The only thing we need to be better is trying to defend what we have scored. If we scored in the first half, we need to try to defend and score more but it happens, even the greatest clubs in history also concede goals and make it difficult for themselves,” he said after the game.
“But we are in a position that we contain everything around by making our mentality of winning the trophy,’ he added.
Paintsil continued: “That is what we have made our mind now but as we keep learning as football players, we still have to learn and just keep the focus and just keep believing and just keep believing in each other. I think even though we make mistakes, the most important thing is to win and when we win, we always have the three points and the three points always puts us in a good direction.”
