2024/25 GPL: Legon Cities seek redemption against Medeama

Legon Cities will aim to secure their first win of the season when they host Medeama SC in the second round of Ghana Premier League matches on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at the University of Ghana stadium.

The Accra-based side started the season with a disappointing 2-1 defeat away to Bibiani Gold Stars last Sunday, leaving them 17th in the standings heading into the second round of games.

After the loss, defender Frank Akoto stressed the importance of bouncing back against Medeama.

“It was not a bad performance at all. We lost but we gave a good fight. Most of the players are very new but we keep talking to them to share our experiences. Next game is a home match, we will go all out & fight for the points,” he noted.

Meanwhile, Medeama SC opened their campaign with a narrow 1-0 win at home against Accra Lions, giving them a positive start to the season. The Yellow and Mauves are determined to continue their strong form against Legon Cities, a side they’ve outperformed in recent seasons.

However, their head coach Nebojsa Kapor, remains cautious about the challenge posed by Legon Cities.

“Legon Cities are a good team. They always have good players. When we played our last match in Tarkwa, we knew they had some very good players, especially in the middle who combine very fast. This is something where we will also concentrate and how we will prepare for the match.”

He further added, “We must think about how to set up our performance at a high level in this game and, from the first minute, show what we want and what we expect. As always, this is all about the three points for us,” he said in his pre-game interview.

Historically, Legon Cities have managed 2 wins, 1 draw, and 3 losses in their last six home games against Medeama SC. Overall, in the last nine meetings between the two sides since 2020, Legon Cities have only won once, while Medeama have claimed 7 victories, with 1 match ending in a draw.

This is a record head coach, Paa Kwesi Fabin will be looking to improve on when he leads his team against Tarkwa-based side on Saturday.
