The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has condemned recent attacks on some of its officers who were on duty in Accra.

In a statement dated Tuesday, September 10, 2024, GNFS said two separate incidents within a week have left one officer injured and others traumatised.

An officer from the Ministries Fire Station, on September 3, 2024, sustained a fractured ankle on duty after a driver and his mate assaulted him.

The victim, identified as ADO II Abdul Aziz Annor, is currently receiving treatment at the 37 Military Hospital.

Some residents of Dansoman also verbally and physically assaulted some firefighters who were responding to a fire outbreak on September 5.

The statement said the attack occurred when the fire truck had temporarily left to replenish its water supply.

Despite the attack, the firefighters managed to contain the blaze with the assistance of two additional fire trucks, preventing further damage to nearby properties.

“The matter has been reported to the Dansoman Police, and investigations are ongoing to bring the perpetrators to justice.

The GNFS further threatened the public that any attack on its personnel would be met with strict legal action.

“Our personnel risk their lives daily to protect citizens and property, and they deserve respect and support from the public,” it said.
