Three persons have been confirmed dead in a gory accident at Gomoa Mprumem on the Mankessim-Winneba highway in the Central Region.
The accident, which occurred on Thursday (September 5, 2024) evening, left eight others in critical condition.
Eyewitnesses report that the driver of the Toyota Hiace mini commercial bus lost control of the vehicle after a tyre burst, causing the bus to crash and catch fire.
The swift response of firefighters from Apam and Winneba Fire Service stations prevented further loss of life, rescuing those trapped inside.
The deceased have been taken to St. Luke Catholic Hospital Morgue, while the injured are receiving treatment at Winneba Specialist and Trauma Hospital.
The accident occurred on Thursday, September 5, 2024, between Amoma Nkwanta and Pramposo, when the taxi, travelling from Techiman to Kintampo, attempted to give way to the trailer due to poor road conditions.
According to eyewitnesses, a construction tipper truck failed to slow down, striking the taxi from behind and forcing it into the oncoming trailer.
The impact was severe, causing the deaths of the driver, known as Ogyam, and his female passenger.
Their bodies were severely damaged, making identification challenging.
The rescue operation, involving the Fire Service, Police, and road safety officials, took over two hours to complete. Tragically, another trailer crashed into a vehicle during the operation, injuring several passengers.
